Please, Get the Story Straight!

I was thinking this morning about how some folks may say some things and totally MEAN something else, only then to turn around and EXPECT YOU to understand what they REALLY meant. It made me think about the power of our words and what words really mean and the impact that they have on relationships.
Throughout the years, we've allowed words to become watered down and to some extent, mean something else than what their true definition is. As a person who works in a field where the power of words are important and evident, I look at this as almost an insult to not only the intelligence of the person who said it, but the person that they're addressing. If I tell you something is ridiculous, then I'm believing you. While I know the usage of slang is the definition of being "hip", I also know that it makes for bad communication and can ultimately lead to a "communication breakdown".
Hey, I use slang, but I don't use words that mean one thing and try to make them mean something else. I know that words paint images and at the end of the day, I would want to make sure that the image I paint is what I really want you to see as truth and not as a delusion.
I read some place there's a price to pay for calling "evil good and good evil". Maybe that happens because we fail to give value to the words we use...
